Introducing ENG4VOL: Enhancing Volunteer Engagement in Civil Protection

Volunteers are at the heart of civil protection systems across Europe. Their commitment, skills, and readiness to act are essential in emergency response and disaster management. However, keeping volunteers engaged, motivated, and retained over time remains a significant challenge for many organizations.

ENG4VOL is an EU-funded Erasmus+ project that aims to address this challenge by strengthening volunteer engagement and retention in the civil protection sector through evidence-based practices, shared expertise, and innovative approaches.

Project Objectives

ENG4VOL focuses on understanding and improving volunteer engagement by:

  • Analysing what motivates volunteers in civil protection contexts
  • Developing a Lessons Learned document with practical recommendations and strategies
  • Supporting civil society organizations in training, motivating, and retaining volunteers
  • Promoting knowledge exchange and cooperation among organizations across Europe
Expected Impact

By fostering motivation, engagement, and long-term commitment, ENG4VOL seeks to contribute to:

  • Stronger and more resilient civil protection organizations
  • Better-prepared and more motivated volunteer networks
  • Improved cooperation and knowledge-sharing at European level

Through research, collaboration, and dissemination activities, the project will support organizations working with volunteers and help strengthen civil protection efforts across Europe.
